I want to develop an application that runs on all BlackBerry 5800 Series of handhelds worldwide. Do I need to build specific versions of my application to run on handhelds in different countries or continents?

Article Information: No. Applications built with the BlackBerry JDE run on any BlackBerry 5800 Series handheld, regardless of which specific network on which or country in which it is operating. In fact, Java applications developed with the BlackBerry JDE will run on all future BlackBerry handhelds as well, including those on other 2.5G and 3G networks.

The BlackBerry JDE also includes a built-in resource mechanism for localizing text strings for multiple languages. This mechanism enables you to easily and dynamically support multiple languages in one application, which means that country-specific versions are not required.
